This year we shall hold our annual 'Shed Some Pounds' Christmas Walk on Tuesday, 30th of December. The meeting time is 9:16 am at Lockwood Station arriving in Denby Dale at 9:36 am [£3-20 adult return, £1-60 child return]. Alternatively you could meet us at Denby Dale Station [free parking]at 9:45 am. We shall finish in the mid to late afternoon - trains are every hour on the 25-past the hour arriving in Lockwood at quarter to the hour [timetable here].

The route follows footpaths and minor roads in a circular route via Upper Denby, Gunthwaite Hall, Broad Oak, Papist Hill, Dry Hill, Denby Hall, Wheatley Hill Farm [time permitting], Denby Dale where suitable refreshments will be found whilst awaiting our transport home.

There are shortcuts back to the start should anyone feel that they cannot complete the whole course.

HIKING EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST

In addition to the items below, you will need boots [wellies at at pinch but NOT trainers] and a rucsac to carry the following:

waterproof jacket; waterproof overtrousers; mittens [or gloves]; scarf; balaclava/hat;
drink: not fizzy; not in a glass bottle; hot drink;  
food: sandwiches; fruit; additional 'emergency' food;  
First Aid kit; spare sweater; whistle; possibly gaiters;  
         

 

Since this Group was closed I keep this site going as a tribute to the Group, its former members, and because of the vast amount of resources I built up over the years. To lose all this would be a travesty. I do all this at my own expense.
